Prioritizing Mental Health: A Journey of Self-Awareness and Growth
Mental health reflects how we navigate our thoughts, feelings, and behaviours. It involves being in tune with us and engaging with our inner world in a healthy, productive way. For many, especially men, society often conditioned us to suppress emotions, perceiving feelings as weaknesses rather than an integral part of the human experience.
Breaking the Stigma
Growing up, many of us were taught to be “tough,” equating emotional suppression with strength. This mindset led to the burying of emotions instead of openly expressing them. Over time, I realized that this attitude towards mental health only created more harm, both emotionally and psychologically. Our feelings are not something to be hidden but rather something to understand and embrace. They make us human.
A Personal Journey of Introspection
To fully understand the importance of mental health, I embarked on a journey of introspection. I started questioning my reactions to situations and confronting my emotions instead of pushing them away. This self-reflection became a crucial part of my mental health journey. Every day, I made it a point to sit with my thoughts and feelings, examining how I responded to different experiences throughout the day.
In this process, I learned to accept my emotions without judgment. Rather than viewing them as something negative or a sign of weakness, I came to realize that acknowledging and accepting these emotions is essential. It’s an inevitable part of the human experience. As I grew more aware of my strengths and areas for growth, I fostered a deeper sense of self-awareness. This self-awareness has been instrumental in my journey toward becoming a better version of myself.
Seeking Help is Strength, Not Weakness
One of the most important realizations I’ve had is that seeking help is a sign of strength, not weakness. Whether it’s confiding in a close friend or reaching out to a mental health professional, taking that step can lead to tremendous personal growth and healing. I want to highlight the mental health resources available on our campus at Universal Ai University. We are fortunate to have access to amazing counselors, like Vihangana Ma’am, whose insightful advice during our session was truly transformative for me.
Mental Health at Universal Ai University
At Universal Ai University, mental health is given as much importance as physical health, which I find incredibly valuable. We have a strong support system in place, with resources designed to help students manage their emotional well-being. I feel fortunate to be part of a community where mental health is prioritized, ensuring that students have the tools they need to thrive both mentally and emotionally.
Make Mental Health a Priority
Taking care of our mental health should be just as important as maintaining our physical health. It’s vital to our overall well-being. Today, I encourage you to take a moment to acknowledge your journey and appreciate yourself just as you are. We’re all on this path of growth and self-discovery, and every effort you make toward understanding and improving your mental health deserves recognition.
So, take a deep breath—you’re doing great. Give yourself the credit you deserve for all the efforts you’re making, no matter how small they may seem. Investing in your mental health is one of the most meaningful and beneficial things you can do, not just for yourself but for those around you as well.
